Leftover love.. xx

Lets face it, wasting food is something we've all been guilty of whether it's a couple of forgotten pieces of pizza in the fridge, a lost cucumber of those carrot tops which always seem to escape the pesto blender.

1. Make a broth

Is there anything a good bowl of soup can’t cure? Start off your own homemade soup with a broth made from food scaps. Ingredients like onion and garlic skins, tops of celery, carrot peels, and corn cobs are great additions into a hearty vegetable broth. Simply collect the scraps, store them in a freezer-safe container, and keep collecting until you have enough. Once ready simply bring the leftovers to the boil and then leave to cool. Strain and transfer the liquid to a suitable container or pot if ready to use.

2. Make a bug repellant

Did you know many bugs like ants, moths, wasps and more can be deterred by cucumber? Simply keep you leftover cucumber cuttings and peels then place in a small bowl in areas frequented by the above. Best only leave out for a day or so depending on where you are located, climate, etc

Note hot weather will fast track the deterioration of these much loved leftovers.
